Oooh, this is another one of those onion things, isn't it? (Name the movie...)

So I was hesitant on putting up this picture of me , because it's not the best, but I thought it was funny. Tyler was sautéing onions and it made my eyes water so bad! It was probably one of the worst reactions I've ever had to onions.
Little known fact (or maybe widely known, but interesting nonetheless) we saw on the history channel: When you slice through an onion, in short, a gas is released. The gas reaches your eyes and reacts with the water that keeps them moist. This produces a mild sulfuric acid, which irritates the eyes. So the brain reacts by telling your tear ducts to produce more water to dilute the irritating acid so the eyes are protected. And this is why your eyes tear up when an onion is cut.
